Diplomat Fellowship by the Numbers
Working With Flint, for Flint: Diplomat’s Fellowship for Social Impact
Diplomat’s Commitment to Flint
For more than 40 years, Diplomat has been dedicated to the city of Flint. When given opportunities to relocate to larger cities, Diplomat remained in Flint—not only because of the reputation Diplomat had built there, but also because it is a community Diplomat believes in and wants to prosper with.
Diplomat’s Fellowship Program is rooted in Flint, Michigan, for this same reason. While Flint faces social and economic hardships, Diplomat exposes Fellows to the energy and hope within the city by immersion in local culture. By keeping the Fellows grounded in Flint, Diplomat is able to support organizations in the city and for the city even after the program has concluded.
Diplomat’s innovative programs provide Fellows a truly immersive urban experience, including the provision of housing in downtown Flint to spur and inspire social innovation among participants.

What is the Fellowship Program?
Diplomat’s Fellowship Program fosters new thought leaders by providing opportunities to create sustainable change within the Flint community through research, social impact, and service projects. Fellows are required to be undergraduate students or to have graduated from a college within 12 months of beginning the Fellowship Program. The program is designed for young social innovators who have the talent, passion, and potential to tackle the biggest problems facing urban communities.
Participants get hands-on experience and gain access to a dedicated network of professionals. Fellows will develop critical business and communication skills that can prepare them for a career in civic-minded business, nonprofit management, or social entrepreneurship.
Each Fellow is partnered with a local community organization, and projects are created to be sustainable even after the program has concluded. This allows Fellows to reach their professional goals throughout their time in Flint, while working with an organization that needs the support and expertise the Fellow has to offer.
