Sarah, 2015 Intern

We offer paid internships in:

Account Management is responsible for creating and building business relationships with payors, pharmaceutical manufacturers and other industry partners. An intern will be able to learn from business professionals, and can expect to be responsible for researching and creating resources for employees to reference during client meetings.

The Clinical Services team at Diplomat researches the drug pipeline, completes therapeutic drug reviews and collects data to assist the entire company. As an intern in this department, you can expect to help in coming up with solutions for making our patient order process more efficient.

The Compliance department exists to ensure Diplomat complies with applicable laws, rules and regulations, and to prevent, detect and, when necessary, resolve potential compliance issues. These can include diversion and fraud, waste and abuse. As an intern in Compliance you can expect to research the laws that could affect Diplomat and develop resources for employees in the department.

Corporate Services supports Diplomat’s business development by monitoring opportunities, developing proposals and maintaining databases—while also handling administration with key customers. A Corporate Services intern might work toward creating software to increase the efficiency of Diplomat’s database.

The CSR department develops and maintains Diplomat’s relationship with the community. Interning in this department gives you the opportunity to promote events that are planned or sponsored by Diplomat. You will also be involved in helping Diplomat employees participate in certain activities and in helping coordinate our Fellowship for Social Impact program.

Diplomat’s Education and Quality Department (Diplomat University) seeks pharmacy students entering their third year of pharmacy school. There are many projects interns may be responsible for, including creating clinical materials for internal and external trainings, giving clinical presentations and participating in quality improvement projects. Interns will learn about the different disease states that specialty pharmacies service, shadow Diplomat personnel working at each stage of the patient journey and become familiar with specialty medications.

The Facilities department encompasses three main areas: maintenance, janitorial and security. Facilities is responsible for space planning, employee safety, construction projects and the preventative maintenance of all mechanical equipment at Diplomat. Interning with Facilities would allow you to gain experience repairing any mechanical and electrical issues that occur in the building.

The Finance department is responsible for maintaining the cash management for claims, and processing and paying Diplomat’s bills. An intern in the Finance department can expect to perform daily accounting tasks, such as balance sheet analysis and variance analysis. You may be responsible for forming solutions in our expense system.

The Hospital Specialty Programs team is responsible for working in partnership with hospital outpatient pharmacies. This includes providing patient onboarding, assisting in copay program enrollment and making ongoing adherence calls. An intern here can expect to prepare data analytics for the department.

The Human Resources (HR) department is devoted to providing an effective structure to support the Diplomat mission, vision and guiding principles. HR provides strategy and management on talent acquisition, performance management, compensation, benefit administration, payroll, employee engagement and any policy or procedure’s development and adherence. While interning in HR, your responsibilities will include working on projects that have a direct impact on organizational and HR initiatives.

Industry Relations is responsible for monitoring the drug pipeline, and sending proposals to pharmaceutical manufacturers in order to make new drugs available at Diplomat. This department collaborates with our internal and external stakeholders to take care of patients, increase profit and expand services.

The Information Security department is responsible for ensuring confidentiality, integrity and availability of information while defending company information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, modification, recording and destruction. An intern would learn information security best practices, as well as how to utilize tools, analyze data and gain experience in risk analysis.

The Legal department performs content auditing for external publishing and files reports on any unlawful incidents that may occur. An intern working in the Legal department can expect to gain experience working in accreditation, compliance or both.

Our Marketing team works with others internally to promote Diplomat and help tell our company’s story. As an intern in Marketing, you will assist teammates with daily tasks and help improve the team’s workflow. An intern can also expect to carry out their own project that incorporates research, writing and design.

The Operations department includes our call centers, Centers of Excellence (COEs), clinical help desk and distribution center. Operational duties include delivering each prescription on time and monitoring patient adherence to therapy. An intern in Operations can expect to learn about the full process that a prescription goes through to get from the doctor to the patient.

The Sales team acts as a single point of contact (SPOC) for physician’s offices. An intern in Sales would work alongside the team, sit in on conversations, make suggestions on possible improvements and be able to help implement them.

What will the summer look like?

  • Paid internship, 40 hours per week
  • 12-week program, from May to August
  • Be recognized as a true member of the department you are working in
  • Included in all team meetings and activities
  • Responsible for a summer project to present at the end of the internship—to friends and family, employees, executives and community leaders
  • Attend weekly lunch-and-learns with fellow interns— and learn more from leading minds in the industry

Lunch-and-Learns
Once a week, all interns attend a lunch-and-learn coordinated by Diplomat University. These include presentations from employees across Diplomat. A representative from Human Resources might give you advice on résumé-building, and an executive at Diplomat might offer insight on how to run your own business.

These presentations are given during lunchtime, with lunch provided. Lunch-and-learns are a great opportunity for you to network with all the interns, and hear more about what they are working on.

Personal Projects
Throughout the internship program at Diplomat, you are responsible for completing a project that pertains to your unique skillset within your department. This gives you an opportunity to have an impact on Diplomat that lasts long after your time here.

Upon completion, the results of your project are displayed on a poster for you to present to co-workers, supervisors, executives and community leaders. You can even extend the invitation and showcase your work to your friends and family.
