Helping hepatitis patients stay on track.

Patients with hepatitis require a coordinated care team. Prescribers to care and diagnose, payors to provide adequate coverage, and pharmaceutical companies to continue researching. And as a specialty pharmacy, we’re here to lead and offer patients the support they deserve.

Our hepatitis program is centered around patients’ short- and long-term goals for therapy. Each patient is connected with an individual care team, consisting of registered nurses and personnel specially trained in hepatitis care. This patient-support system assists emotionally and logistically, coordinating treatments and offering assistance 24/7. We work toward treatment adherence and, in some cases of hepatitis C, a cure. Because we are a full-service pharmacy, we are able to provide prescribers the entire class of hepatitis drugs.

Through communication and support, we are here for each member of the health care team. And together, we do everything in our power to combat hepatitis.

An estimated 3.2M

Americans have Hepatitis C*
* CDC Statistics, cdc.gov

An estimated 3.2 million Americans have hepatitis C. Additionally, an estimated 1.2 million are living with chronic hepatitis B, and there are about 3,500 new infections of hepatitis A each year.2 Following a diagnosis, patient education is key. When patients are equipped with information about their condition, they are able to make more informed health care decisions, make necessary lifestyle changes and help prevent spreading the disease to others.

The very first step on the road to treatment is diagnosis, which is why getting tested is an important part of routine health care for those who may have been exposed. There is no way of knowing who has hepatitis without proper testing. Fortunately, testing for hepatitis is simple, quick and affordable. All it takes is a series of blood tests known as a virus panel to screen blood samples for all forms of hepatitis. Getting accurately tested is vital to the long-term elimination of the virus.

The pharmaceutical industry has made huge strides in battling hepatitis. Patients now have access to treatments that were unheard of until recently. From antiviral medications that treat—and effectively cure—hepatitis C to vaccinations for hepatitis A and B, drug discovery is continuing at a tremendous rate and with great success. As research advances, we are drawing closer to the end of the disease faster than ever before.

At Diplomat, we are dedicated to serving our patients and breaking down barriers to access wherever possible. We know that medications are only effective if patients are able to access them. Which is why, through foundations, copay assistance and prior authorization assistance, we do everything in our power to connect patients with treatment. Beyond that, we help with insurance paperwork and do our best to make the road to affordable medication as smooth as possible.

Hepatitis C treatments require a high-level of adherence to create positive outcomes. Which is why, at Diplomat, adherence is at the heart of our model. Through technology, on-time delivery and a high-touch approach, we have been able to achieve very high levels of adherence across all disease states. Our patient care coordinators reach out to patients before each refill, to coordinate delivery, discuss side effects and answer questions before the patient misses a single dose.

With any condition, the hope is always for a cure. And sometimes, through many years of research and rigorous medical and technological developments, a cure is discovered. We’re seeing tremendous success with hepatitis C treatments, and new medications are being developed to combat it. Today, we’re seeing cure rates of 97.9 percent.3

While a cure for other types of hepatitis has not yet been discovered, promising research and advances in technology are moving us closer to that goal every day.
