One patient at a time—always.

Diplomat has always worked to improve healthcare—from our 1975 founding as a local pharmacy to our nationwide presence today. Explore some of our achievements along the way.

1975

BEGINNING THE JOURNEY

Dale Hagerman, a partner at small retail chain Ideal Pharmacy, traded his stock to buy the location on Flushing Road in Flint. He recruited his son Phil and started the first branch of Diplomat Pharmacy. After more than 40 years, their original philosophy remains: “Take good care of patients and the rest falls into place.”

2001

BECOMING A NATIONAL SPECIALTY PHARMACY

Dale and Phil expanded Diplomat Pharmacy's dispensing capability from Flint to the entire United States. Increasingly, the company dispensed complex or expensive medications, addressing unmet market needs. By 2001, Diplomat had transitioned into a specialty pharmacy. It would grow to become the largest of its kind in the nation, independent of pharmacy benefit manager, health plan, retail chain, or wholesaler ownership.

2005

EXPANDING INTO MANAGED MARKETS

As Diplomat expanded in the specialty space, we formalized our managed markets strategy to better engage with stakeholders across the continuum of care.

2008

LAUNCHING NONCOMMERCIAL PHARMACY

To help patients access medication, Diplomat began providing noncommercial fulfillment distribution services. Eventually, these would move under a firewalled subsidiary called EnvoyHealth.

2014

GOING PUBLIC

On Sept. 29, Diplomat became a publicly traded company, launching an initial public offering (IPO) of stock on the New York Stock Exchange. The proceeds fueled a wave of growth and development that helped us continue to meet the most challenging patient needs. The IPO laid the foundation for our expansion into specialty-focused healthcare.

2015

EXPANDING INFUSION SERVICES

Our expertise in specialty distribution and support services was a perfect fit for the exacting requirements of infused medications. Over the next two years, we acquired seven infusion companies and brought them under the umbrella of Diplomat Specialty Infusion. These strategic, disciplined acquisitions gave Diplomat a strong presence in the rapidly growing, high-margin infusion space and helped us serve more patients with exceptional care and services.

2016–2017

GROWING OUR INDUSTRY SERVICES

EnvoyHealth expanded its a la carte hub service offering to meet industry demand, coupling reimbursement and commercialization with noncommercial pharmacy warehousing and distribution. Diplomat's 2017 acquisitions of WRB Communications and 8th Day Software expanded EnvoyHealth to offer a complete suite of hub services with quick, customizable technology solutions.

2017–2018

Specialty Benefit Management

Diplomat acquired two benefit management companies, National Pharmaceutical Services and LDI Integrated Pharmacy Services. Uniting them with Diplomat’s specialty-pharmacy and infusion expertise produced CastiaRx, the industry’s leading specialty benefit manager. CastiaRx meets the needs of small and midsize payers underserved and in need of new solutions.
